M.B, Ch.B., MRCOG, PhD - Consultant Gynecological Oncologist - Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust
From United Kingdom
I qualified at the University Of Stellenbosch in South Africa, and subsequently relocated to the United Kingdom. I completed my basic obstetrics and gynaecology training in London, and received the MRCOG gold medal. I moved to the Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre in Gateshead, in the North of England where I undertook my PhD in ovarian cancer molecular oncology at Newcastle University . I completed a subspecialty training programme in gynaecological oncology in 2013 and am a consultant gynaecological oncologist at the NGOC.
My interests include colposcopy, laparoscopic gynaecological oncology surgery and education. I am the lead colposcopist for our cancer centre. The NGOC is United Kingdom DySIS colposcopy training centre, and we run regular workshops for local and international delegates. This is in addition to cadaveric surgical courses in both upper abdominal surgery and laparoscopic radical hysterectomies. We also the only gynaecological oncologists who have Royal College of Surgeons approval to run Care of the Critically Ill surgical patient provider (CCrISP) courses, for which I am associate course director . I am involved in undergraduate medical education for Newcastle University Medical School and postgraduate doctors in training programmes, and have a particular interest in coaching junior doctors to help them to maximise their potential. I am committed to providing high quality care for women with gynaecological precancer and cancer.
