Dr. Cathy Emmerson

Dr. Catherine Emmerson was born in Belfast but lived the majority of her childhood in Zambia. She studied medicine in London and completed a BSc in Pharmacology from University College London in 1983 and qualified with MBBS from Westminster Medical School in 1986.
Dr. Emmerson worked in London and the south east until moving to Sunderland in 1993 and worked as a Senior Registrar in Newcastle/Sunderland. She was appointed as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Hartlepool in 1995 as the lead in high risk obstetrics including antenatal scanning. This included Postgraduate Education as a special interest and she became an RCOG college tutor in 1998.
Dr. Emmerson moved to Sunderland Royal Hospital in 2004 as Consultant and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynecology with a special interest in maternal medicine and lead for undergraduate education. At present she is Obstetric Lead for the diabetes in pregnancy service and has recently developed a telemedicine service. She is also SSC and Elective Course Director for Newcastle Medical Schooland Vice-Chair of ALSO (UK) having been Chair until 2013.
