Professor David Barlow
MD, FACOG - Director of Women’s Services and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology - Hamad Medical Corporation
Professor Barlow graduated in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1975 and after training in Glasgow, spent twenty years at the University of Oxford where he was Nuffield Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Head of the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Vice-Dean for Research and Development for the University of Oxford, Division of Medical Sciences. While in Oxford he served two terms on the RCOG Council. In 2005 he was appointed as Executive Dean of Medicine at the University of Glasgow, retiring in 2011. In 2012 he was invited to his current role as Director of Women’s Services at Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar.
He has contributed widely to the specialty, particularly in infertility; endometriosis and menopause and published more than 330 papers including 200 original research papers (h-index 60).
He was Editor-in-Chief of ‘Human Reproduction’ (2000-2006) and served three terms as a Member of the HFEA. His contributions include Chair of the 2004 NICE Guideline on Infertility; Editor of the1999 RCP Clinical Guideline on Osteoporosis; Chair of the UK Department of Health Advisory Group on Osteoporosis (The AGO Report, 1993) and Editor of the Cochrane Menstrual Disorders and Subfertility Group since 1996. He has been President of the European Menopause Society (EMAS) and Chairman of both the British Menopause Society (BMS) and the UK National Osteoporosis Society (NOS). He is a Member of the Editorial Board of ‘Menopause’ and a Senior Editorial Advisor of ‘Maturitas’. He was one of the editors of the ‘Health Plan for Adult Women’ published by the International Menopause Society in 2005.
