Professor Joachim W. Dudenhausen

Dr. Joachim Dudenhausen is the Deputy Chief Medical Officer at Sidra Medical and Research Center. He was appointed to the role in 2013. Prior to this, he was the Medical Advisor and Head of Medical Staff Services at Sidra. In his current capacity, Dr. Dudenhausen is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Graduate Medical Education and Medical Staff Service. In addition to his role at Sidra he is a Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar.

Dr. Dudenhausen has a wealth of clinical experience, having worked for more than 30 years in Obstetrics and Gynecology departments in Germany, Switzerland and the U.S. From 2010 to 2011, Dr. Dudenhausen spent a year as a visiting fellow in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the prestigious Weill Cornell Medical College in New York.

Following his outstanding work as Director of Obstetrics at the prestigious Charité Hospital in Berlin from 1989 to 2010, Professor Dudenhausen received a Medal of Honour from the hospital, and was also awarded the Order of Merit from the Federal Republic of Germany. He served as the Dean of the Medical School Charité in Berlin from 2001 to 2004.

Professor Dudenhausen is a recognized international leader in his field and has served in numerous high-ranking professional positions, including Secretary General of the World Association of Perinatal Medicine. He served as President of the German Society of Perinatal Medicine and was President for the 9th World Congress of Perinatal Medicine in Berlin in 2009. In addition, he has been Editor-in-chief of the Journal of Perinatal Medicine and a member of the International Board of Advisors for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He also holds a Fellowship Ad Eundem from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

He has published more than 500 papers and books, including the textbook ‘Praktische Geburtshilfe’ (Practical Obstetrics). His research areas of special focus have included the prevention and treatment of pre-term labor, the management of multiple pregnancy, and supervision of the fetus during labor.

Dr. Dudenhausen was educated at the Freie Universität Berlin, where he completed a further seven-year specialist training in Obstetrics and Perinatal Medicine following his medical degree.
