Nazar Amso isProfessor in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Head of the Academic Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, School of Medicine, Cardiff University and has also held the position of Senior Consultant in Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine since 1998. He qualified from the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, Iraq in 1974, obtained his MRCOG in 1985 and PhD in reproductive medicine from London University in 1996. He finished his higher clinical training in obstetrics and gynecology at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne (1992-1994) and worked as a consultant at Gateshead Hospitals NHS Trust (1994-1998). Nazar undertakes teaching and clinical duties at the University Hospital of Wales where his clinical interests are in reproductive surgery and minimally invasive techniques and he is an IVF Consultant at London Women’s Clinic, Cardiff. He regularly supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students and has been the Director of Cardiff University Ultrasound Masters programme for obstetric, gynaecological and medical ultrasound since 2004. Nazar has been the local principal investigator of the United Kingdom Collaborative Trial for Ovarian Cancer Screening (UKCTOCS) and is a member of its ultrasound subcommittee.
He is a Director of a Cardiff University spin out company, MedaPhor Ltd., which has received university and national innovation awards for its novel virtual reality ultrasound training simulators. He is the Ultrasound Lead for the Welsh Deanery and a member of the Deanery’s School of Obstetrics and Gynecology training committee and he is the founding President of the British Society for Gynaecological Imaging.
